PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS:
Charleston, South Carolina, the state's historical epicenter, is home to the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). For decades, the University's College of Health Professions had sought to develop new facilities and to completely renovate an historic facility adjacent to MUSC's campus in Charleston's historic downtown district.
South Carolina, the city of Charleston, and the MUSC were brought together in a first-of-its-kind public/private partnership to make the project possible. A full range of developer services were provided, including assembling the development team, structuring the transaction, financing, commissioning, and ensuring the facility's overall quality. The project required coordination of the historic preservation of an existing building through the local historic preservation society and the Charleston Board of Architectural Review. The 100,000-square-foot development includes classroom and educational spaces, administrative offices, and public meeting and gathering spaces.
